Berlin Fashion Week

Summary: Day 1

SOPOPULAR

Finding ourselves backstage at Sopopular on the first morning of Berlin Fashion week, we encountered our first surprise hearing the well-known voice of actor RJ Mitte (aka Walter junior for Breaking Bad addicts) in the crowd. The actor and model, who had a 20 page spread last season in Best Fashion, is making headway on European runways, cat-walking for labels such as Armani and Vivienne Westwood. Amongst the selfies and fanfare, the models were given heavy military makeup aptly setting the mood for the collection entitled “The Last March Before Victory.”

Outfit pick: Blechman has revisited the classic blazer updating the staple with an exposed shoulder. A practical way for the tough boys to display their tattoos perhaps?

VEKTOR

The SS16 Vektor collection was dominated by numerous light blue denim pieces paired up with a strong showing of mesh. The numerous light blue denim pieces paired up with a good balance between boys and girls, created an overall very fresh youth ideal. The youthful collection geared towards sportswear for both sexes, employed flesh colors with plenty of fluidity and transparent textiles.

Have a closer look at Vektor SS16 in our latest interview with designers Martin Eichler and Kristina Puljan of Vektor.

IVANMAN

Set to a heavy Gesaffelstein track, the Ivanman presentation was fast and intense. Vibrant color blocks highlighted a collection that interwove classic men’s wear staples with contemporary touches such as the slouchy collar on collar action. The Serbian-born designer sent 16 bold looks down the runway, intermixing classic cuts with sportswear textiles. An exciting collaboration with Shoe Passion, brought about a mix of eccentrically accented loafers and oxfords complementing the designer’s affinity for balancing bold and wearability.

Designer Ivan Mandzukic is a finalist in this year’s renowned International Woolmark Prize, where he was nominated for his extensive and innovative use of wool.

Outfit pick: We’re total fans of the color block knitwear, especially those tank tops—an unusual, but delightful combination for summer.
