Sissi Goetze

One thing that becomes clearer each fashion season is that Sissi Goetze’s garments thrive on exactitude. Like many of the young designers who have established steady recognition for delivering solid collections on the runway, Sissi Goetze knows where her talents lie and she knows how to rework her formula each season to highlight her skills. This approach to design, while soporific for some, is actually an asset for menswear, where the need for aesthetic consistency is stronger.

This season’s collection retains many of Sissi Goetze’s signature design—elbow length raglan sleeves, neutral colors, cropped shirts, hidden closures and the unexpected overlapping layers. Upon closer examination, however, her alteration of the standard collar, subtle print work, and experiment with new pattern techniques add the necessary element of surprise for SS14. Despite the artistic limitations that often come with designing a menswear collection as opposed to women’s wear, Sissi Goetze has creatively chosen to exercise her surgical muscles as a designer to refine the details and method of her vision.
