The Outsiders Guide To Getting In

Berlin Fashion Week

artikelVoll-5258-org

Years ago, before I gained any access into fashion week events, I was a fashion loving outsider with zero industry access to the shows that would captivate me with their romance and fantasies. Before I started covering the shows or dappled in any fashion week related activities, I was an obsessed fashion lover relentlessly following the live streams of runway shows and designers’ instagram photos/tweets for glimpses into this elusive world. Though far removed from this sphere at the time, I was utterly mesmerized by it all: the collections, the models, and the feelings they inspired.

To all the fashion addicts who desire the chance to experience an event once reserved only for press and buyers, I totally get you and I’m happy to report that this is entirely possible.  This season, and hopefully for seasons to come, our team will make an honest effort to highlight fashion week events that are open to the public. Whether you’re interested in experiencing a fashion week collection presentation or looking to connect with some industry professionals at an event, Œ will find a way to make this happen. We’ve raked through the invites and save-the-dates and have chosen the following open to public events that will hopefully bring you nearer and dearer to the thing you love!

Who & What: Dandy Diary‘s Unofficial Fashion Week Opening Party
Each season the boys behind the famed men’s fashion blog Dandy Diary throw a heck of a opening party replete with dress code and a detailed list of what not to wear. This year’s party comes with “brutual live acts and performances” along with a black and white dress code.
When: January 13, 2014, 10 pm (open bar from 10 pm to 11 pm)

Who & What: Rike Feurstein AW 14/15 Collection Presentation
While this official fashion week event is not actually open to the public, it will be held at the hat label’s flagship store in Mitte. If you’ve ever passed by Rike Feurstein on Rosa-Luxembourg Strasse, you’ll have noticed the floor to ceiling shop windows. Stop by, look in. Get my drift?

Rosa-Luxembourg Strasse 28

Who & What: Esther Perbandt AW 14/15 Collection Presentation
This year marks a milestone for designer Esther Perbandt, who founded her label 10 years ago. To celebrate the occasion, the eponymous label will unveil its AW 14/15 collection “Grotesque” at the famed Volksbühne theater. A limited number of tickets will be available to the public for 18 EUR through the Volksbühne website. Fans of the label can also support the designer with its startnext crowd funding campaign.

Where: Volksbühne Theater, Linienstrasse 227

Who & What: Mads Dinesen AW 14/15 Collection Presentation
Designer Mads Dinesen makes his debut in the fashion tent this season. If its title “Smoke Clad Warrior” is any indication of what’s to come, I’d say this is a fashion event you won’t want to miss. It’s also a great opportunity to experience a show inside the fashion tent, where most runway and collection presentations take place.  To get your hands on tickets, support Mads Dinesen and his crowd funding campaign via Indiegogo.
