Fresh New Kicks

The DCAC MK4 trainers by fashion designer Patrick Mohr for K1X are an amalgamation of the worlds of hip hop, basketball and fashion. What makes the fusion of both labels unique is that through the merging, the visual identity and characteristics of both brands are still recognisable.

Since the launch of Mohr’s eponymous label in 2009, he has become well known for his unisex fashion collections.  In the past he is noted to have said, “there is no difference between man and woman”, so it comes as no surprise that this 3-piece collection is unisex.  Another trait recurrent in Mohr’s work is his use of clean geometric designs.  With this sure to be collector’s item, his frequent use of clean and structured print translates into high-end nubuck leather (available in cherry red, canary yellow and burnt orange) embossed in triangle pattern prints.  Before Mohr studied fashion design at ESMOD, he was a qualified carpenter and with this collection he shares his past trade by fixing wooden triangles on the front of the trainer, giving them a special raw edge.

Over the fashion season’s, Mohr’s presentations have caused quite a buzz in the industry due to his use of unconventional models, which have included a transman and a down-syndrome model.  His relentless search for beauty in all humanity creates a provocative and conceptual vision that blends both fashion and art.  However, Mohr understands the importance of having commercial acumen in a competitive industry that continues to grow, and that’s why in this collection we are treated to statement and wearable sportswear.

If from Mohr we get high fashion with a structured twist, K1X brings wearable street cred into the mix.  After MK1, 2 and 3, MK4 delivers several updates which include the workmanship of its collar padding, revamped embossing and a heel-strap magnet.

For those of you who get bored easily, you can adopt a variety of looks courtesy of the straps and two detachable accessories that come with the trainers, which can be worn as wrist brands or around the neck; making these MK4 trainers the gift that keeps on giving.

The launch event in Berlin took place on Dec 5th with the expected fantastic surprises and guests.  From the end of December, the K1X x Patrick Mohr DCAC MK4 will be available worldwide in select retailers which include Primitive (London), Feature Sneaker Boutique (Las Vegas), 424 on Fairfax (Los Angeles), Luisa via Roma (Milan) and k1x.com/shop.
