Space Is The Place

The new creative center

Warm-hearted, open-minded, full of life and creativity – Tunisia is the melting pot of the future. That was my first impression when I got off the plane and began my journey in the North African country. The invitation to Tunis Fashion Week came spontaneously and totally unexpected. Childhood memories were awakened. In the mid-90s, I traveled to Tunisia for the first time with my parents and experienced the dream of 1001 nights. But what was stuck in my head were also the high security measures and the military on the beach. Until now.

What I discovered, experienced and saw was a completely different place than I had memorized through my prejudiced view. People with loving nature, people who want to live life to the fullest, to realize their dreams. Young people, girls and boys, dancing, partying and living out their queer energy. But also, creative master minds, bursting with inspiration and diversity, presenting one collection after another. I felt taken in and high on this atmosphere.

Highlight of my trip: An editorial with local model Tasnim in the colorful and vibrant streets of Tunis. Amidst old buildings and the vaulted corridors of the souks, we staged the creations of mainly local designers.

I left Tunisia with one eye crying and one laughing. Full of positive energy, new inspirations and a feeling of pure optimism. Hopeful, I boarded the plane, a look back with the certainty and anticipation of a new adventure in this great country.
