Chic Sportsmanship

Sportswear as a fashion trend has been evolving for the past few seasons. Its not too long ago that sporty was about baggy sweatpants and slouchy t-shirts, but for spring/summer 2014, runway looks have redirected sports attire toward a sleek, luxurious and minimal direction. Athletic mesh, skater skirts and jogging shorts are the leading looks this spring.

Franziska Michael_Julian Zigerli

All looks in (L) Franziska Michael’s presentation took us court side with literal references to tennis attire. Bodysuits, crop tops and mini dresses contained graphic prints and a laser cut finishing.  (R) Julian Zigerli is known for his sporty signature. The young designer mixes sporty mesh with explosive color abstractions from artist Katharina Grosse.

Marc Stone_Rebecca Taylor

(L) Marc Stone presented a sporty outdoor collection in practical fabrics (R) Rebecca Taylor’s white and grey collection combined mesh alongside carefully placed patchwork and zippers.

Louise Goldin_Victoria Beckham

(L) Louise Goldin and (R) Victoria Beckham presented collections completely in black and white. Goldin used carefully placed piping stripes to accentuate the body in the right places. Beckham’s collection included classic tennis skirts and dresses, combined with sporty bomber jackets.

Marc by Marc Jacobs_Tommy Hilfiger

(L) Marc by Marc Jacobs went for a very colorful interpretation of the sports trend, elaborated in satin fabric. (R) Tommy Hilfiger also went for bold colors on form fitting neoprene with laser cut finishings.

Jil Sander_Chanel Couture

(L) Jil Sander found the perfect balance between office wear and sportswear. A classic white dress shirt was adjusted with an elastic waist and wrist detail and matched with classic black trousers with white trouser stripes. (R) Chanel Couture presented sportswear saturated with luxury. Haute Couture dresses were sent down the runway styled with glimmering sneakers and knee/elbow pads.
